Greatest Detective?

Well done to Carol Westron who successfully argued the case for Hercule Poirot and saw her favourite win the audience vote. Really interesting evening, with good talks from the speakers, good questions from the audience and nifty observations from Will Sutton, our moderator. Who also managed to control Carol and me, which isn’t easy.

  1. He wouldn’t have got my vote – I’ve never been fond of Christie because after a couple of books (all her detectives, not just P) I find them formulaic and there’s too little character development. Sherlock isn’t a favourite, either, though I do like the fanfic… I like Alleyn and Cadfael much better. I feel much more that the authors invite me into their minds and reasoning rather than relying on clues etc. I like Elizabeth George’s books, too, but not the TV series.
