WWI commemoration – displaying our Poppies with Pride

Cochrane towers seems full of poppies. The enamel badge one I have on my coat from 2014, the reflective one on my keyring, the decorative metal one in the garden, the one on the wooden cross I’ve just put on the war grave I tend, and the poppy from the Tower in pride of place in our lounge.

Such an iconic symbol – but the poppy isn’t just to be worn once a year then forgotten about. The work done by the British legion, Help for Heroes, the Royal Star and Garter Homes, Rugby for Heroes and the like continues 24/7. There are many ways to support these charities, and one of my favourites this year was contributing to the Pride of Poppies anthology. It’s a cracking book, full of cracking stories and through contributing to it I’ve made a great new pal, the wonderfully talented .

This book is a ‘poppy’ I really can wear with pride.
